So... now it's serious... I guess!

Jeremy has been a bit better about posting to this blog than I've been... and "better" is a fluid term since he's really only posted twice since we began and they were both well over a year ago. The truth is, we've been living life and working to get through one day at a time. As you all know, when you live like that, you suddenly wake up to find significant amounts of time have gone by and you, your dreams, and goals have all fallen by the wayside. Needless to say, Jeremy and I both are incredibly excited about another new year. We're at a point in our lives where "rolling with the punches" just isn't acceptable living anymore. We want to climb out of bed every morning with a powerful, distinct, deliberate purpose, and make our dreams come true...every day.

Which brings me to this post. Jer and I are photographers. We work as a team as often as we can. Jeremy is fearless, and rolls around on the ground, or climbs a tree, if needed, to get "the" shot. His angles, and vision, and talent amazes me always. I enjoy shooting also, but truly enjoy editing. A beautiful photograph can be amazing straight from the camera, but with some minor editing, it can be an absolute masterpiece. A photo can appear to be a total bust, but with delicate, careful attention can be a treasure. That's how Jer and I look at photography... How can I capture this millisecond in time and portray the personality, emotion, and beauty of that one, irretrievable moment? When I read other photographer's blogs, I hear them describe that feeling, that responsibility, and the joy that they feel when they are successful. It's beautiful to read, but until you feel it yourself, it is never fully appreciated.

Of course, I am a person who thinks I have a lot to say and feel the need to post it on the internet so that others can "appreciate" my wit and wisdom... Of course, I wouldn't NORMALLY describe myself with such narcissistic traits, but honestly, any blogger feels that way just below the surface... although they may never readily admit it.

I've attached a few photos of some of our most early photo shoots. We were serious novices... Well, I certainly was. Hope you enjoy!

This is from one of the first "shoots" I'd ever done, personally. This is my INCREDIBLY gorgeous younger sister Hayley). We did this in my bedroom because it had beautiful light. I honestly used a Nikon E4300 - a run of the mill point and shoot. Ha ha ha... we've come a long way.

This is Tristan Jamie, my beautiful daughter. As Jer and I started taking more and more photos, we learned a lot of important lessons. The least of which is make sure the subject is having a great time - this ensures a relaxed, natural photo. We try not to do anything too composed.

As word began to spread about our photography (entirely among my immediate family only), we were asked to do more shoots. This is my nephew Cole Tyler. He was about 3 1/2 when I took this photo. Remember what I said about personality, and emotion? THIS photo... is what I'm talking about. This is SO Cole!

This is my precious niece, Victoria Reese. She is Cole's little sister and this came from the same shoot as the picture of Cole above. This shoot started it all! My sister began showing off her pictures to people and reported that we were getting some exciting compliments. This photo shoot triggered an interesting chain of events... (And to this day... Jer and I are Jill's ONLY family photographer - no Kiddie Kandids, no Sears Portrait Studio... Just Two as One Photography!)

Alisha and Dennis Engagements

>> Thursday, October 22, 2009

It is hard to describe the feeling of doing an Engagement shoot. The couples are just so in love and sweet to each other. Dennis and Alisha were no exception. Alisha is a very special friend that lives near Jer and I and when she asked us to do some photos for her, we were ecstatic! Congrats 'Lish and Dennis!!! We love you guys!

We did their announcements too!

My favorite subjects....

Jer and I really love taking photos of our children. They have learned to be good sports about it, and even get in to character to fit the mood of the shoot. This particular shoot, however, the children dictated the vibe to us. They told us what they wanted to wear, how they wanted the photos to look... We had a LOT of fun! (Andrew wasn't with us on this day, but he would have TOTALLY rocked it out!) Fierce! :)

This last photo was a candid, but everyone who sees it, loves it. So I thought I'd share it too...

Serious, SERIOUS fun!

>> Friday, September 18, 2009

This is my beautiful friend Kinsie. I was alone on this shoot. I did it all. I did the makeup, hair, and photography, and was indescribably nervous. I'm not really sure why. Probably because I really wanted Kinsie to get the photos she wanted and I wasn't sure if what I was imagining in my head was the same as what she was imagining in hers. We had a blast though. The ONLY thing that would have made this shoot more fun, is music. Then it might have honestly been pretty rockstar. She wanted some photos taken for her husband. We did a few that were pretty sexy, but I won't post them here. But let me tell you... She is smokin' hot!

My Niece

>> Tuesday, September 15, 2009

I love to take photos of my niece, Tori. My sister, Jill just bought her a bright pink, frilly tutu. Tori LOVES wearing it and Jill wanted a few pics snapped of her. The tutu is so beautiful and bright, but I love the sepia finish on some of these... it reminds me of old time pictures... those nostalgic reminders of a better time, you know...with a certain, indescribable romance to them.

This darling little red-head was so cute and fun. She crawled all over and let us just shoot away. She was such a good sport!
